LOCATION: Hybrid - 54 Wolseley Street, Toronto, 3 days in office.
STATUS: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 10:00a.m. - 6:00p.m. 
SALARY: $120,000

infrastructure for a new and engaging model of mental health care for young adults and

JOB DESCRIPTION

Stella’s Place is seeking an experienced HR professional to fill a vacancy and help position the organization as an employer of choice. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will lead all aspects of HR, including recruitment, employee life cycle management, employee relations, and compliance, while representing the organization to external partners. 
You will drive organizational planning and operational excellence, with a focus on HR strategy, process improvement, and internal systems. This position will foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, transparency, and psychological safety.
This role demands strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Success requires exceptional judgment, diplomacy, and superior verbal and written communication skills.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic HR Leadership

  • Lead the organization’s people and culture strategy in alignment with organizational priorities, operational goals, and legislative requirements. 
  • Advise the Executive Director and senior leadership team on workforce planning, organizational design, employee engagement, compensation, and culture.
  • Lead talent management strategies including recruitment, retention, succession planning, leadership development, and performance management.

  • Develop HR operational and financial strategies, including forecasting workforce and resource needs.
  • Oversee total rewards programs, including compensation frameworks, benefits, and recognition initiatives.
  • Champion equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives across all people practices and organizational policies.

Employee Relations & Organizational Effectiveness

  • Provide strategic oversight and direction on employee relations, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and performance matters.
  • Build strong relationships with leaders to support effective consistent decision-making, team effectiveness, and organizational health.
  • Mitigate organizational risk through proactive compliance with employment legislation, policy development and revisions, and best practices.
  • Lead organizational change management, internal communications, and staff engagement initiatives.
  • Monitor workforce trends, morale, turnover, and engagement metrics to inform organizational strategy and continuous improvement.

Operations & Governance

  • Oversee HR operations, systems, and processes, including HRIS integrity, payroll collaboration, records management, and reporting. 
  • Ensure effective onboarding, training, certification compliance, and professional development practices across the organization. 
  • Establish and monitor people metrics, providing regular reporting and strategic insights to leadership.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Payroll, IT, and operational leaders to support organizational effectiveness and compliance.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen employee experience and operational excellence, including chairing the the staff satisfaction committee 
  • Ensure required training, certifications, and professional development are in place to support operational objectives, compliance, and organizational strategy. 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 7–10 years of progressive HR management experience
  • CHRP or other HR designation is preferred
  • Proven ability to design and implement strategic HR initiatives, organizational development programs, and core HR processes
  • Strong knowledge of HR functions, best practices, and relevant legislation
  • Knowledge and experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and policy development
  • Proficient in HRIS systems, payroll administration, and workplace technology platforms
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-management skills, with the ability to influence, build trust, and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders in complex or high-pressure environments 
  • Demonstrated ethical, collaborative, and accountable leadership, with a commitment to confidentiality, sound judgment, and fostering a positive workplace culture 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, drive initiatives forward, and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Resourceful, adaptable, and proactive, with the ability to navigate change and support organizational effectiveness in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning

Preferred Assets:

  • Experience mentoring and supporting early-career professionals, including those transitioning from academic to professional roles
  • Experience in the community mental health sector and/or nonprofit organizations
  • Bilingual (French & English)

REPORTING AND HOURS

  • Reporting to the Executive Director, this is a full-time, hybrid position requiring minimum three days per week in the office. Stella’s Place operates Monday to Friday, with hours ranging from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. depending on programming. The core hours for this position are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m..
