POSITION TITLE: Development Officer - Mid-Level Giving
LOCATION: Toronto - Hybrid
SALARY RANGE: $60,000 – $65,000

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
At Stella’s Place, we’re committed to innovating and delivering effective mental health and recovery services to young adults.
Reporting directly to the Director, Major Gifts and Partnerships, the Development Officer is tasked with generating philanthropic support for Stella’s Place, thereby advancing its mission and fostering strong relationships with current and potential donors. This role encompasses donor engagement and relationship-building, with a strong emphasis on crafting high-quality written content. The successful candidate will manage a diverse portfolio of mid-level donors and prospects, including individuals, corporations, and small to midsize foundations. The ideal candidate must have 3+ years of experience in managing foundation requests, conducting prospect research, and adeptness in front-facing donor relations and stewardship.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research, Identification and Qualification:
- Build a strong list of qualified donors for cultivation for the Director, Major Gifts & Partnerships using existing prospects in Raiser's Edge NXT, and external tools and sources to maintain an active list of 150+ prospects at all times.
- Qualify and build out an existing pipeline of 150+ mid-level donors.
- Research and qualify foundations and partnerships for all levels of potential gifts.
- Research prospects and prepare profiles for donor meetings and events.
Cultivation and Solicitation:
- In partnership with Director, Major Gifts & Partnerships and CDO, build a Mid-Level Giving communication and cultivation plan that will provide structure for growth to meet revenue goals.
- Cultivate and solicit a portfolio of mid-level donors, foundations & community partners.
- Write and prepare foundation proposals for $5000 - $40,000 gifts.
- Meet with prospects and donors regularly to support the programs and events of Stella's Place.
Community Engagement and Networking:
- Actively support and attend community events and donor engagement opportunities.
- Research event attendees and, in partnership with the Director, Major Gifts & Partnerships, develop strategies and executions to build cultivation.
- Use the tools provided to identify and create prospects for Mid-Level and Major Gifts.
- In partnership with the Development Team, create strategy and lead the execution of event follow-up cultivation plans for mid-level donors, support same for Major Gifts.
- Collaborate with other fundraising channels to execute revenue generation strategies focused on Stella’s Place priorities.
Planning and Administration:
- Collaborate with the Director, Major Gifts & Partnerships and the Chief Development Officer to set portfolio annual and long-term revenue plans.
- Maintain the Raiser’s Edge database with accurate donor information for reporting and planning on mid and major gifts.
- Stay informed on Stella’s Place projects to effectively discuss them with donors and prospects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
You are a curious, engaged individual looking to take your next career step in a vibrant and exciting young mental health charity.
- Minimum 2-3 years of front-facing annual and/or mid-level gift experience.
- Strong understanding of Raiser's Edge NXT or equivalent donor/CRM database.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent writing, prospect research, donor communication, and presentation skills.
- The ability to conduct discovery calls.
- The ability to cold call, when appropriate.
- Strategic thinker and a good listener, genuinely interested in others.
- Qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of Stella’s Place.
- Knowledge of relationship building, fundraising and stewardship is essential.
- Experience developing and/or implementing annual and/or mid-level/major gift plans is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the Google operating system and Google suite of tools is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint an asset.
PREFERENCE will be given to candidates with:
- University degree or College diploma in fundraising/non-profit management/business or the equivalent time spent working in a fundraising role.
- Proven track record of cultivating and securing gifts of $2,000 to $40,000+.
- Interest in or lived experience in supporting young adults and/or mental health.
- Experience working with diverse populations/equity-deserving groups.
- Existing experience in a donor-facing role.
- Raiser’s Edge NXT experience.
- Letterbox Experience.
WORKPLACE, HOURS & REPORTING:
Stella’s Place is an innovative, award-winning, designed facility located in the vibrant neighbourhood of Queen West and Bathurst. Regular communication, coaching, mentoring, personal and professional development, and evaluation will take place with the Director, Major Gifts and Partnerships, on a regular basis.
This is a full-time, hybrid, position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, including 3 in-office days per week. As a key part of the development team, some weekend and evening work will be required on occasion and tied to events or donor needs.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
$60,000 - 65,000
Stella’s Place offers a competitive annual salary commensurate with experience and professional development for your career growth We offer a comprehensive rewards package including medical, dental and vision health benefits, which start immediately.
Stella’s Place offers 3 weeks of vacation and 15 personal days in year one, increasing to 4 weeks vacation in year two.
