Commitment: Part-time, Volunteer Board Role (4-year term, renewable)

Stella's Place is dedicated to supporting young adults (ages 16-29) through accessible mental health services, peer support, and community-based programs. Our mission is to provide inclusive, evidence-informed care that empowers young adults in their mental health journeys.

Role Overview:

The Volunteer Fundraising Chair is a key member of the Board of Directors, responsible for recruiting and leading a group of volunteers with philanthropic backgrounds and strong community connections to advance the fundraising mission of Stella's Place. This role will engage with donors, fellow Board Directors, corporate partners, and philanthropic networks to strengthen financial support for the organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Help to recruit, chair, and support a group of volunteers with fundraising expertise and the capacity to open up networks, and philanthropic connections.
  •  Support, educate and oversee a volunteer-driven fundraising strategy for peers and other senior volunteers that aligns with the organization’s financial goals.
  • Collaborate with the board and development team to identify and engage potential donors, sponsors, and corporate partners.
  •  Educate, guide and support fellow Board Directors and Senior volunteers in championing and door-opening activities that support the financial goals of Stella’s Place.
  •  Champion Stella’s Place and foster partnerships with philanthropic leaders, businesses, and community organizations to enhance financial sustainability.
  • Work closely with Stella’s Place development staff to ensure alignment between volunteer-led fundraising efforts and the organization's broader development strategy.
  • Advocate for volunteer-led fundraising initiatives within the board and the organization.
  • Attend and actively participate in board meetings, fundraising committee meetings, and major donor events.
  • Make Stella’s Place their “charity of choice” while serving on the Board and endeavour to financially support Stella’s Place to the best of their ability in their capacity as Board Fundraising Chair.
  • Actively champion Stella’s Place, and our mission, while serving on the Board.
  • Attend and actively participate in board meetings, relevant committee meetings and at least two Stella’s Place community event per year.


Qualifications:

  • Passion for mental health advocacy and commitment to Stella’s Place’s mission.
  • Experience in marketing, Board education, nonprofit leadership, tools of philanthropy, committee leadership, and philanthropic networks are an asset.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to mobilize and inspire senior volunteers.
  • Existing networks or the ability to cultivate relationships within the philanthropic community.
  • Strategic thinker with experience in fundraising campaigns, supporting first-time door openers and working with major gift philanthropic networks. Previous board or leadership experience is required.
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening.


Commitment:

  • Serve a four-year term with the possibility of renewal.
  • Attend bi-monthly board meetings (virtual or in-person) and fundraising committee meetings as needed.
  • Dedicate approximately 5-10 hours per month to board and fundraising activities.
  • Participate in Board education and tool development efforts.
  • Make Stella’s Place your “charity of choice” while serving on the Board and endeavour to financially support Stella’s Place to the best of your ability in your capacity as Board Fundraising Chair.
  • Attend at least two Stella’s Place event per year.
  • Open doors to your personal and professional networks with the aim of championing the Stella’s Place mission and our financial security. 
  • Participate in donor cultivation efforts, fundraising events, and advocacy initiatives.
